Set up a routine.
Consistency is the key. Students thrive with having a set homework time and place. One chore each week needs to be binder clean out and organization. This needs to be on a set day each week. My personal preference is either Friday afternoon or Sunday evening so that I start off Monday fresh. Some students feel that they are just too exhausted by then and prefer it earlier in the week. As long as it's on the schedule it really doesn't matter.
Progression of skill:
*Parents / teachers have to clean and organize the students binder for them.
* Parents / teachers involve the student in cleaning out the binder by having the student make choices about what to keep or toss. The student may need guidance as to what is kept or thrown out. Parents / teachers should talk them through the thought process.
* Student cleans and organizes binder with parent / teacher monitoring process.
* Student takes ownership of cleaning and organizing the binder but may need occasional reminders to do it.
* Student takes complete ownership of cleaning and organizing binder.

"Did I?" Work Sheet
This worksheet was originally developed by a private practitioner for one of my students. With her permission I was allowed to share it with my other students. It has changed over time to be more applicable to my current students and the classes they attend. I am currently considering yet another revision to make it more manageable for students. The original intent was that this form was a replacement to the agenda. There were complications with that plan for students with low executive functioning skills, they kept misplacing this form because it was a loose piece of paper. I have found being consistent with the agenda and having multiple eyes on it daily is more effective, but I do want to incorporate these questions into their thinking as they fill out the agenda. Keep watching for updates as I go through the trial process.

Teachers are starting to catch up with students on the technology craze. Check with your teacher to see if there are any aps or sites they are using for homework management. I just signed up for Ms. Howard's Remind 101 and several teachers are using the free My Homework Ap available to both droid and apple users. Let me know what your teacher is using to help you be successful and I will add it to my site!
